Campbell considered the master of myth
Joseph Campbell's personal passion for myth is again documented in 5 hour-long episodes that are difficult to rate. As a light evening of TV entertainment it would fail for most viewers. But this is a documentary. An educational adventure. PBS. It would be quite rewarding teaching for students and participants in literature, mythology, philosophy, and creative writing. For those viewers I have offered a 5 star rating.
How does myth combine with artistic expression in poetry and prose?

Patience and Gratitude
I share some of the frustration one reviewer mentions in that the Mythos III is taking longer than expected. However, some of his criticism is misplaced. This production is funded by the Joseph Campbell Foundation, a non profit foundation that has been struggling for funding since the financial crisis in 2008. I am actually surprised that they are able to finish this dvd at all considering their ongoing revenue shortfall. The statement that "They seem to be taking more time to assure their financial positioning in the whole scheme of things" is just not true. Please visit the website at JCF.org and find out more about the selfless service that this community is performing. There are also some previously unreleased video shorts of Campbell that are now freely available from the website, so be sure to check those out. I continue to practice patience and gratitude!
Worth the wait!
There is so much depth and quality to all of the material that has been released so far. I'm sorry to hear that the foundation has suffered financial difficulties with the economic downturn, but I prefer the delay if it means the quality won't be compromised. Joseph Campbell deserves nothing less. I'm certain Mythos 3 will meet my expectations ... looking forward to the release.
